Sydney To Surfers Bike Ride – A Case Study

If you’re looking for some ideas about sports nutrition for endurance events (and missed our brilliant Steve Born seminars) then this might be of interest.

Brendon Sinclair is the fellow who helps me manage this web site. Many moons ago Brendon was pretty fit – doing Ironman triathlons and marathons – but for the past 9 years or so he hasn’t really done anything. Except eat pies!

He just got reasonably fit to do the Noosa Triathlon with his son Jack (that’s them on the left). To give you an idea of how fit Brendon is, he did the 1.5 km swim in 30 minutes and the 40 km bike ride in 1 hour 25 minutes.

Cycling From Sydney To Surfers

Anyhoo, Brendon has just entered the 10th Annual Sydney to Surfers Cycle starting on March 24. It’s a charity ride with proceeds going to Youth off the Streets -click here for more information.

I’m not sure of the exact distances as yet, but it’s about 1,000 km in a week.

Over the next few weeks we’ll do a bit of a case study as Brendon trains and uses the great Hammer Nutrition products in an effort to prepare for 1,000 km on the bike over 7 days.

Michelle Wu Joins The Hammer Team

Michelle Wu, one of Australian’ most exciting new Triathlon Talents has joined the Hammer Team.

Michelle only started triathlon 2 years ago ( 2004), and having already represented Australia in the World Championships this year gaining a bronze medal in the 20-24 year age group, her future looks extremely promising.

Michelle is with the Tridents in the ACT.

Fastest Age Group Female

Last year she was the fastest age group female in 3 National Series events. What a great achievement !

Being an avid user of Hammer Products already, it was a great match.

Michelle is a great ambassador for the sport and our products. Working with Michelle this year, she hopes to move up to the professional ranks soon. It’s our goal to provide her with the right nutrition to get her there!

A Customer Emails Us About The Seminar

Hi David

Just a quick word on last night’s seminar at Gymea.

I would firstly like to say that I am 45, and have run since I was in school.

Now, since a lung disease 12 years ago, I am a hack, whose only goal is to finish races. I have a permanently reduced lung capacity.

I started triathlon 4 years ago, and did the GC half last weekend (in 6 hours 15!!).

Anyway, being old, I have heard it all. Mostly from ‘experts’, particularly in the area of nutrition.

“….I heard from someone who made sense to me.”

Last night was the absolute first time, that I have heard form someone who made sense to me.

When Steve (right) spoke, my instant thoughts were “Thank Christ, someone knows about this stuff”.

I have tried to eat, then eat some more, just because the experts told me to.

They were wrong.

Last year I did Yepoon, in 6.53. I ate constantly, felt like shit, and took 5 days to be able to walk upright.

Did Tougher Course – Faster, Better & On No Training!

Last weekend I did a tougher course in 6.15, with only Hammer gels and Heed, and drove home to Sydney the next day. Sore for one day.

I had done virtually no training this year (unintentional, but work commitments…).

Hope the ‘experts’ can explain that!!!

Appreciate The Seminar

Anyway, the point of this email is to say thanks.

Appreciate the seminar, and I will certainly be sticking to Steve’s logical (and proven) advice.

Not only is your product excellent, the advice was also fantastic.

Please say thank you to Steve for me. I enjoyed his talk tremendously.

Again, praise the bloody Lord. Someone not trying to convince me to feel bloated all the time!!

McCormack Primed for Hawaiian Ironman

I went long to the Gold Coast Half-Ironman at Coomera yesterday – we were one of the sponsors – and saw Chris McCormack break the Gold Coast record by 1 minute 10 secs.

Chris finished in a very quick 3hr 53min 5sec in fairly warm conditions.

Chris looks very solid coming into the famous Hawaiian Ironman next month and I imagine the conditions yesterday, whilst not nearly as humid as Hawaii, would have him primed.

Terrific Turnout

It was a terrific turnout on the day and we received tons of great feedback about our products at the pre-race Expo. I was also amazed at how many people commented on how good the web site is now.

You kind of know people read it, but when so many people come up and say hello because they’ve been reading the site, it makes sense of those growing visitor numbers we see each month!
