Sporting Accomplishment/ How did you get into the sport?
My sporting accomplishments have varied throughout my life. I started off BMX racing and was 2nd in NZ 3 years in a row. From BMX I then played football (soccer) for close to 20 years. I represented my region for several of those and twice played in the winning team of the Uncle Toby’s Cup, scoring in one appearance. (A prestigious NZ women’s knockout final). I was a non-traveling reserve for the NZU20 side when I was 19. When I finished playing football I was looking for something new, and as I could run and like to ride my bike I joined the local triathlon club and have been competing now since 2011.
Hardest thing about your sport?
I have never been a swimmer. I now swim 3 mornings a week at 5:30 am with a squad full of ‘swimmers’. It can be intimidating but I just focus on what I need out of the session.
What does your regular training week consist of?
I train anywhere from 14-18 hours a week depending on where I am at leading into a race. This might be 3 swims, 4 bikes and 4 runs with a couple of weight sessions. I am prone to injury with running so we have to be careful with the load. It is frustrating as running is my strength and I love to run.
How do you keep motivated?
It might sound cliché’ but just to be the best me. As I get older I am getting faster and I am curious to know what I am capable of.
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations)
To compete in the IMWC Kona 2025. I raced there in 2023 for the first time and loved it.
